DJ Sesqui (meaning one and a half), has been DJ’ing for over 20 years. He got his start in L.A. in 94 doing small events around the city with partner Carlos Nino (“Space ways” KPFK).

Both affluent in art of excavating funk, soul and jazz records, they turned on listeners to their finds in clubs like Luna Sol, Mama Gyas, and Fais Do Dos. Soon thereafter they teamed up with the likes of young musicians like Miles Tacket (aka Kid Named Miles) and began to do a mix of both live funk cover bands (The Breakestra) and rare groove mixing at a spot called The Breaks (later known as The Rootdown). The 3 year roaming event was also the host to many performances by Black Eyed Peas, Visionaries, Jurassic 5, and DJ Shadow just to name of few. DJ Sesqui would later go on and host a weekly at the famed Atlas on Western Ave. called Sessions with collaborators Ritual Events. The classic night spot, which featured DJ Sesqui and quest DJ’s (Cut Chemist, DJ Newmark, DJ Babu, J-Rock), also fused the sounds of Latin bands such as B-Side Players, Francisco Aquibella, Pancho Sanchez, and Bobby Matos. Around that time DJ Sesqui would venture his talents to Europe, South America, Canada and the US. Opening for such acts as Kruder & Dormiester, King Britt, Prince Paul, Giles Peterson, and Thievery Corporation.

Now Residing in Portland Oregeon, Sesqui has been busy spreading the sermon of his deep crated tastes on his radio show “Astral Traveling”on KBOO 90.7FM. The show now in it’s 5th year not only brings Sesqui’s vinyl collection to life but also has had surprise guests and interviews with Phil Ranelin, Micheal White, Brian Auger, Rob-Swift, Orgone, Polyrhythmics, DJ Nobody, and Lee Fields just to name a few.
